Your Nervous System Is Talking…

Are You Listening?

The body holds deep wisdom.

Long before we can articulate our feelings, our nervous system is already responding.

It's sending subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) messages through sensations like tightness in the chest, racing thoughts, clenching jaws, or the urge to shut down altogether.

Often, these responses aren’t random - they’re survival patterns shaped by past experiences, stress, or trauma.

Many of us live from the neck up, trying to "think" our way out of emotional pain.

You may think you’re an overthinker, but you’re just stuck in a nervous system that believes its safer to think than feel.

But healing happens when we invite the whole body into the conversation. When we begin to attune to the whispers (or roars) of the nervous system, we find the art of regulation, the ability to stay steady and responsive in everyday challenges.

Understanding Your System

The nervous system has one job: to keep you safe.

It scans the environment constantly, looking for cues of danger or safety.

When it perceives threat, it activates the appropriate response: fight, flight, freeze or fawn.

These aren't flaws. They're brilliant, ancient systems designed to help us survive.

But in modern life, this wiring can become overactivated, especially if you’ve experienced ongoing stress, relational trauma, or felt unsafe in your own body.

Common signs that your nervous system is overwhelmed:

Sometimes we don’t even realise we’re out of alignment until it manifests in our bodies, minds, and emotions.

Here are some signs that something might be off:

  • Feeling on edge or unable to relax

  • Emotional numbness or disconnection

  • Trouble sleeping or digesting

  • Sudden outbursts or shutdowns

  • Persistent fatigue or foggy thinking

The good news?

With the right support, you can rewire your internal alarm system to feel more regulated, safe, and empowered.

Relearning Safety in the Body

If you’ve been in sessions with me, you will be familiar with modalities like Somatic Therapy, DBR, and mindfulness practices that invite the body back into balance. It’s not about fixing yourself, you’re not broken, it’s about listening to what your body has been trying to say all along.

Here are a few gentle ways to begin:

1. Grounding: Try placing your feet flat on the floor, feeling the earth below you. Take a slow breath in, and exhale with a sigh. Ask yourself, “What do I notice in my body right now?”

2. Orienting: Look around your space. Let your eyes settle on something pleasing or calming. This practice helps signal to your brain that you are safe in the present moment.

3. Self-Compassion: This one can be tricky for some. The easiest way is to speak to yourself as you would a friend or toddler. This begins to soften the inner critic and allow for tenderness.

4. Connection: Regulating doesn’t always happen in isolation. Safe, attuned relationships whether with a therapist, friend, or partner can co-regulate our systems and offer new experiences of trust.

Healing Is Not a Straight Line

If your nervous system feels like it’s always in overdrive, you’re not broken. It’s because your body had to learn to survive.

At Wild Heart Therapy, those patterns are honoured, while gently helping you find new pathways toward healing and wholeness.

The art of nervous system regulation isn’t about perfection.

It’s about cultivating awareness and returning to yourself again and again and again.

Through body-based practices, compassionate witnessing, and gentle rewiring, you can create a life that feels safe enough to thrive in.

Your body has always known the way.
