When your mind questions, and your intuition knows

Intuition has been spoken about a lot in sessions over the last couple of weeks!

Clients often ask “how do I know it’s intuition?”.

It’s such a good question, my enquiry is always the same… “where do you feel it?”.

If you’re not grounded or connected to your body, it’s almost impossible to know what’s truly guiding you.

When we’re anxious or dysregulated, everything feels urgent, tight, or confusing, it’s hard to trust what we feel when we’re in that state.

That’s why I keep coming back to self-regulation and body work.

The better you know your body and nervous system, the better your boundaries. And the better your boundaries, the better your relationships and well being will be!

From that steadier place, intuition doesn’t shout or demand…… it just quietly is.

In a world that rewards logic, productivity, and external validation, listening to your intuition can feel completely foreign! We’re taught to rationalize, analyse, and prove - to stay in our heads rather than our bodies. But intuition lives in the body.

It’s the quiet knowing that emerges when we slow down enough to listen.

Learning to distinguish between the voice of anxiety and the voice of intuition isn’t just a psychological skill - it’s an act of self-reclamation.

It’s how we return to our wholeness, our sovereignty, and our self-trust.

The Role Of The Body In Reclaiming Intuition

Our culture trains us to live from the neck up; to value thought over sensation, intellect over instinct.

As a therapist who integrates body-based and evidence-informed practices, I often guide clients to notice what’s happening in their bodies when they’re unsure or overwhelmed.

The body is a map, it holds the imprints of lived experience, intuition, and emotional truth.

Try this:

Pause. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath and feel into your body.

When you think about a decision or situation, what sensations arise?

  • Does your body tighten, contract, or feel heavy? That may be anxiety or resistance.

  • Do you feel grounded, spacious, or quietly certain? That may be your intuition speaking.

The more you come home to your body, the easier it becomes to recognise its signals.

You start to realise that intuition isn’t mystical, it’s biological, relational, and deeply personal.

Women and Intuition

For many women and marginalised people, disconnection from intuition is not accidental … it’s systemic.

We’ve been conditioned to question ourselves, to prioritise others’ comfort, and to seek external validation over inner truth. We’ve learned to apologise for knowing what we know. Gas lit into submission.

Reconnecting with intuition, then, becomes an act of resistance!

A feminist act of reclaiming agency over our own bodies, choices, and wisdom.

To trust your intuition is to say:

I believe myself.

I honor what my body tells me.

I don’t need external permission to know what is true for me.

I’m ok.

This reclamation doesn’t mean rejecting reason or evidence - it’s about integration.

The mind and body are partners. When we value both intellectual understanding and embodied knowing, we access a fuller form of intelligence, one that honours lived experience and emotional truth.

Practicing Embodied Intuition

Here are a few ways to begin reconnecting to your embodied wisdom:

  1. Pause before reacting.
    When anxiety rushes in with questions, take a breath. Allow space for the quieter voice of intuition to emerge.

  2. Notice sensations.
    Ask yourself, What is my body telling me right now? Trust what you feel before you try to explain it.

  3. Sit with yourself
    Create moments of stillness and quiet, doesn’t have to be huge, if all you can manage is 3 minutes in the morning, then that’s the starting point. Things like mindfulness, breathwork, or simply spending time in nature can help you attune to your inner landscape.

  4. Honour what you find.
    Whether your intuition leads you toward or away from something, let that truth matter. This is how you rebuild self-trust.


Self-Reclamation Through Embodied Knowing

At its core, this work is about self-reclamation, remembering that your body and intuition are trustworthy sources of wisdom.

When you listen inwardly, you begin to live from alignment rather than anxiety.

You stop outsourcing your authority. You start making choices rooted in your truth rather than in fear or external expectation. That’s power!

That’s what it means to return to yourself, not as an abstract idea in your head, but as a living, breathing practice.

It’s not about being certain all the time; it’s about being connected.

Your body knows. Your intuition remembers. And you are allowed to trust both.

So maybe this week, try it out.

When you catch yourself spiraling in questions, take a breath and tune in:

What is my body saying?

What does my deeper knowing feel like here?

Most of the time, anxiety wants certainty. It wants guarantees, safety plans, and exit strategies. It’s the voice of “what if.”

Intuition, on the other hand, doesn’t negotiate. It simply knows. It speaks calmly, without urgency. It’s often the quiet yes, the full-body no, the deep exhale of recognition.

It doesn’t have to be complicated — just a gentle shift of awareness.

A moment of self-trust.

Both your anxiety and your intuition are trying to protect you, but only one is guiding you home.

And when you can tell them apart, that’s when you begin to stand in your own power.

It reminds me of one of my favourite sayings, that I nearly got tattooed on myself had it not been for the voice of intuition haha ;) Here it is:

That’s what trusting your intuition feels like.

It’s not about control.

It’s about remembering that the calm, grounded power you’ve been searching for

is already within you.
